Remember to Breathe – A Note to Young Daughters

My girl,

There’s something I want to teach you. Something so simple, so obvious, that most people miss it entirely.

It’s the power of breathing.

Not the automatic kind. Not the quiet background hum that keeps you alive without thinking. I mean conscious breath. The kind you do on purpose. The kind that resets your nervous system, calms your heart, and returns you to yourselfall in a single cycle of inhale and exhale.

One deep breath — full and slow — followed by an even slower exhale.

That’s all it takes. And everything shifts.

Your body softens.

Your thoughts settle.

The storm clears, just a little.

This kind of breath is not just a calming tool. It’s a reminder. A way back to yourself.

It says: You are not lost. You are here. You are still in control.

And here’s the part I love the most: no one can take this power from you.

It’s always with you. Always accessible. Always yours.

You hold powers inside yourself that are as fundamental as elements, as radiant as light. Because you — like all of us — are not separate from the universe. You are made of it. You are its child. And the more you remember this, the less the world can shake you.

But the world, as it is today, wants you to forget.

It wants you to outsource your calm.

It sells you peace in bottles, distraction in endless scrolls, and shallow joy in flashing lights. It teaches you to look outside yourself for everything that has always lived within. It will tempt you in myriad little ways, every single day.

And so many people — kind, smart, well-meaning people — have forgotten what they are.

They chase quiet with pills. Comfort with sugar. Connection through screens.

All the while, the one thing they truly need is the one thing they were born with..

I’ll teach you more about all of this in time.

About how the body holds memory. About how the soul asks for stillness. About how attention is the purest form of love.

But for now, start here. Start by breathing.

When you feel overwhelmed, anxious, or small — when the world presses in and your thoughts race and your chest tightens — don’t reach for the first thing that promises relief.

Instead, hear my voice in your head.

Not panicked. Not scolding. Just steady. Gentle. Loving.

And hear me say:

Breathe, honey. In through your nose. Feel your belly rise.

Then let it go, slow.

Let the moment soften.

Let your feet return to the ground beneath you.

Did you try it just now?

Do it again. As many times as you need. This is how you come home to yourself.

And please, my girl, don’t forget this.

Don’t forget that you have another option. You don’t need the quick fix.

You don’t need to numb or escape or scroll your way back to calm.

Because calm is not “out there.” It’s in here. It always has been.

You are not powerless. You are not fragile. You are radiant. You are a force.

You are the daughter of the Creator who gave you everything you need — including the breath in your lungs and the stillness in your bones.

So start there. Start with breath.

Start with remembering.

And in remembering, become who you already are.

With all my love,

Dad
